Instructor's Biography
Julie Preston is currently the band and art teacher at Deltona Christan School in Deltona, FL. She has given private violin lessons for roughly 16 years and has given group string lessons for five years at the Willamette Valley Baptist School. Previously she worked as a Jaffe Strings Instructor at A Beka Academy in Pensacola, FL for 5 1/2 years. While working as a Jaffe Strings instructor she graded hundreds of Jaffe Strings audio recordings sent in by homeschoolers. Julie has a B.S. Degree in Commercial Art with a minor in Music, Instrumental proficiency from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, FL and a Master of Religious Education degree in Church Music from West Coast Baptist College in Lancaster, CA. She is also a member of NafMe and OMEA.
Julie started playing the violin through the Salem/Keizer public schools in 4th grade under the direction of Bruce Purdy. While in high school she studied the violin under Stephanie Johnson. In high school, she had the opportunity to play in the Salem Youth Symphony for two years. She also had the opportunity to play in the Salem/Keizer All City Honor Orchestra in the 1st violin section her senior year of high school. In college she played in the PCCymphony as well as in the Rejoice Orchestra at the Campus Church, a televised church service. While in college Julie studied the violin with Dr. Alberto Jaffe. Currently, Some of her more recent mentors include Dr. Stephen Nelson and Dr. Charles Heiden.
